VISION:
The Telenursing Working Group is envisioned to be an international network of ISfTeH members who are nurses and nursing advocates who support the use of technologies, telehealth/telemedicine and eHealth to deliver nursing care and nursing practice remotely. Nurses are the single largest group of healthcare providers internationally, therefore it is a critical success factor that nurses are embedded in the development, planning, implementation and management of telemedicine/ telehealth and ehealth programs and policies at all levels. The Telenursing Working Group provides a venue for the involvement of nurses and nurse advocates in disseminating and developing needed tools, resources and interchange of information and knowledge in the fast- emerging role of telenurses. The Telenursing Working group is envisioned to provide a voice of international collaborative expertise promoting the development, education , maintenance of telenursing and the competencies and clinical practice standards and guidelines.
TELENURSING DEFINITION:
Telenursing is the use of telemedicine (and all other telehealth) technology to deliver nursing care and conduct nursing practice (International Council of Nurses, 2007). Telemedicine in this case is defined as tele “distance” and mederi “healing”, which encompasses the use of telephonic, telehealth, Internet, sensors, video, remote diagnostics and/or other interactive technologies which allow interchange between patients and nurses or between nurses and other healthcare providers.
